The weather may be frizzing up the tresses, but one smooth operator in Howick has it all under control this winter.

More than a year since opening, Off the Fringe Organic Hair Studio in Elliot Street has scooped a national marketing award for its outstanding dedication to the Organic Colour Systems (OCS) hair range.

The leading British certified organic range has been a hit with the locals thanks to its complete approach to hair care without harmful parabens and ammonia.

Before using any products from OCS, clients are given an  in-depth consultation and a patch test to check for allergies. The condition of the hair is analysed and a system is prescribed to the client to remedy any problems.

Off the Fringe owner and experienced hairstylist Bridgette Young first began using OCS after fellow hairstylist Megan Shepherd reacted to certain colour formulas. “OCS was a godsend and it did such an amazing job that we instantly introdued it to all our customers!”

This year, Off the Fringe is introducing the talents of training hairdresser Alex Roberts who is now in her second year of hairdressing at Cut Above Academy. “We’re always looking for models available for cutting, colouring, perming and styling. In fact, OCS has a fantastic perm that produces natural results without the damage.”

In addition, Bridgette is looking for a dynamic new senior stylist to join the team. “We want someone who’s after something different and interested in organic, natural products. We’ll provide ongoing training and support and it’s a very fulfilling position – all our clients are extremely loyal.”

It has also been a big year for the talented team who have just returned from the Sydney Hair Expo. “We’re all fired up with new styles and ideas that we saw at the show – balayage and ombre looks are still popular as well as ’80s punk and asymmetrical styles.”

Whether ts a new look for winter or just routine pampering, Off the Fringe has all trends covered with a sleek approach. “We invite all new and existing clients to try the fabulous new Argan Oil Gloss,” says Bridgette. “Its’ infused with argan (Moroccan), green tea and marigold oils that eliminates winter frizz and can be used both on wet hair before styling or to finish a dry style.”
